Wow! I didn't expect you'd get blowback for that suggestion LOL. Well, you get my (non-existent) vote! Her list of credits may not be exhaustive like Chita or Mary or Ethel, but she did create what is arguably the greatest role for a woman in a Broadway musical- I know, I know: highly arguable, but....- and she is the only person coming to mind who actually laid down her voice in service to the theatre. She is as iconic as a performer can get and has always radiated grace and elegance in support of the American Musical Theatre. Her famous demurring when she was nominated for V/V was a gesture towards her company and, especially, her husband, and I can't imagine that thirty years on anyone on the nominating committee would be still harbouring a grudge.
And if they do give her one...TELEVISE IT!!!! |
