Saw this production in London -- massively underwhelming. Yes, they redesigned a theatre BUT this production has no set. Not a single set piece. Tempos drag. This production is boring. Casting prototypes (which have been echoed in New York) actively fight the text. The Empress Frecknall has no clothes.
There is nothing risqué in the show or prologue, so the stickers are only a gimmick (and hopefully to prevent mid-show filming). The prologue is fun to see new entrances and designs into the theatre, but that fades after about fifteen minutes.
The Broadway production certainly has elements that appeal to me (Bebe!), but I won't be seeing this for a nice long time if these current prices maintain. |
