I'm 75 and retired. I'm not rich, but reasonably comfortable after having worked full or part time from 1962 thru 2018. I got back last week from a 9-day New York trip on which I saw 13 shows. I paid full price ($106) for "Oh, Mary!", $99 for Hell's Kitchen, discounted prices between $60 and $90 for each of 6 other shows, digital rush for 3 more shows, and in-person general rush for 2 more shows. I spent 2 hours in line total for the 2 in-person rush tickets (Kimberly Akimbo; Philadelphia, Here I Come!), during which I discussed theatre with other people -- it was an enjoyable experience, definitely not a waste of time. I did not take a subway or bus but walked to the theatre for all 13 shows, including 4 off-Broadway ones in the village area. After each show I walked back to my friend's apartment in Hell's Kitchen except for 1 show because when I left the theater it was raining. When I take a trip like this, I set a budget for my expenses and then I stick to it regarding what I will spend on tickets. |
