This is a show that sort of fell under the radar for me. When I heard the title months ago, I figured it was either a bio-musical about Huey Lewis or (even worse) a songbook revue based on the music he made famous.
Almost every new musical that has opened so far on Broadway this season divides people into "love it" or "hate it" camps. So far almost all the comments about The Heart of Rock and Roll are positive. I saw 13 shows on my trip a couple of weeks ago, but I still haven't seen Gatsby, Water/Elephants, Lempicka, Illinoise, and a few other things.
I can't make it back to New York until the end of June. I'm also a fan of Corey Cott. If Heart/Rock and Roll is still playing, I'm putting it on my list of shows to see. I plan to also catch Enemy of the People, Molly Sweeney, The Wiz, Titanic, Merrily (again, hopefully with Lindsay this time) and possibly one or two other shows. |
