No, I was a big movie buff in 1962 and was actually cast as George in a high school production of Who's Afraid of Virgina Woolf?. When I first saw the line, I didn't know what movie it was from. At that time it was not an iconic Bette Davis film quote like "seatbelt" from All About Eve, "we have the stars" from Now, Voyager, or even "I'd like to kiss you" from Cabin in the Cotton. My recollection from the play is that Martha has heard the line in some old movie, but can't remember exactly which one.
The 1949 Beyond the Forest was and is a pretty obscure, over-the-top, and outrageously bad film. |
