If you’ve not seen it, it is a must-see. The talent involved is crazy - early Alan Parker directing, a few years before he did Fame; a fantastic and fun Paul Williams score, and 12-year old Jodie Foster owning it (I love that she still talks fondly of it).Terrifically flawed, but a grand experiment taken incredibly seriously. I went to elementary school with the son of one of the producers and we screened it in our auditorium before it opened, and I credit it for my lifelong love of musicalized storytelling.
I know it’s a classic / has much more awareness in the UK where I think it’s a staple of youth theater.
Anyway - one to catch! |
