I've seen all three of these. None of them are AMAZING, but I agree with you that I'd take a mediocre musical over a mediocre or even sorta good play any day. I'd recommend them in this order: Suffs, Lempicka, Water for Elephants.
Suffs I enjoyed because it was a feel good history musical, focused on women, which brought to life a few historical figures in charming ways. Should be noted that I'm a historian, so I'm biased.
Lempicka I enjoyed because I thought the sets were fun and a few of the musical numbers felt catchy and exciting.
Water for Elephants I enjoyed because they have some neat integration of circus arts.
I imagine all three will at LEAST be on par with The Notebook and Great Gatsby. |
