The Tony nominations for Best Musical are for the production, not for the quality of its book, music, and lyrics. IMO Here Lies Love, Harmony, and Days of Wine and Roses deserve nominations for Best Score. However, the producing of the Broadway version of Here Lies Love was an absolute fiasco for many, many reasons. The off-Broadway production ran over a year and was judged to be a success.
Back to the Future, Water for Elephants, and Hell's Kitchen seem to be doing the best at finding an audience that will sustain them for a decent run. |
