That was Steven Suskin's review for playbill.com. I remember it well because I then bought the recording and couldn't really hear what he was talking about. Now I can, but just a little bit, but I think it may be because I think a smaller orchestra is used on the London recording. Fewer strings and so the winds come out more. Also, perhaps the orchestra is a bit more forward on the London cast recording, but the CD release has distortion in places, and the cast is inferior to the Broadway cast. |
