I seem not to have kept a record of what films he chose, but I am pretty sure these were the films: Hangover Square (but not Berkeley Square, although TCM has shown it), Smiles of a Summer Night, The Mind Reader (because it's one of the films on which Wilson Mizner is credited as a screenwriter), Out of the Fog (I think this was at least partly because he had played the gangster character, played in the film by John Garfield, in college in the source play, Irwin Shaw's The Gentle People), and Torchy Blane in Chinatown, which was no. 39 on a list he once made of 40 favorite films (and also the name Sondheim is mentioned in the film). |
