I can't agree with him here, not entirely. I don't find his lyrics in MFL lacking in personality or passion at all. The opposite actually. Which, for such a relatively restrained group of people and places, is something. I don't think it *sings* as the beloved crowd pleasing hit musical it is if what Sondheim says about it is true or at least felt and translate to truth for the majority of the people who experience it.
