| I think they'd need a longer rehearsal time than is usually given for Encores for all the choreography for those dance marathon scenes, which seemed to feature a lot of the cast in a major percentage of the show. It has a really good score on the whole and fine orchestrations. I think they were still working on the show's book when I saw it, as it wasn't clear it was a fantasy until the end. Perhaps they made that point better by opening about Daniel McDonald's character. It needed a better 11 o'clock number for Karen Ziemba's character on the same level or better as her opening number though. I tend to skip Kristin Chenoweth's number when playing the recording; yes, she was effective in playing an annoying character in high coloratura fioratura, but the song isn't really up to the rest of the score and works better in the show than on repeated hearings without visuals. | |
