From 1995 to 2015 David Shire was heavily involved with the FSM and Intrada record labels in getting the soundtracks of his most famous film scores released on CD and in some cases expanded. Although I never met or spoke directly to him, I was slightly involved in the FSM release of All the President's Men. During that same period he composed underscores for at least 8 films. He's 86 today and most likely slowed down a lot over the last decade.

Richard Maltby, of course, remained pretty active on Broadway and on tours writing and/or directing through 2009. He's also 86.

It's remarkable and very unprecedented for a composer like Shire to achieve such success with both film underscores and songs for Broadway and off-Broadway shows. I can't think of anyone else who has had such a prolific film career (50 or more underscores) and also composed songs for at least 4 stage shows.
