ANNOUNCING THE 90TH ANNUAL DRAMA LEAGUE AWARD WINNERS Sarah Paulson wins Distinguished Performance Award Hell’s Kitchen wins Outstanding Production of a Musical Stereophonic wins Outstanding Production of a Play Merrily We Roll Along wins Outstanding Revival of a Musical Appropriate wins Outstanding Revival of a Play Daniel Aukin wins Outstanding Direction of a Play for Stereophonic and Maria Friedman wins Outstanding Direction of a Musical for Merrily We Roll Along (New York, NY – May 17, 2024) The Drama League (Artistic Director, Gabriel Stelian-Shanks; Executive Director, Bevin Ross) has announced the winners of the 2024 Drama League Awards. The in-person ceremony, hosted by Emmy-winning NY1 reporter Frank DiLella, was held today, Friday, May 17, 2024 at The Ziegfeld Ballroom (141 W 54th St, New York, NY). Sarah Paulson won the Distinguished Performance Award for her work in Appropriate; the well-respected honor can only be won once during the career of an actor. Stereophonic took home the Award for Outstanding Production of a Play, while Appropriate won for Outstanding Revival of a Play. Hell’s Kitchen and Merrily We Roll Along earned honors for Outstanding Production of a Musical and Outstanding Revival of a Musical, respectively. In the directing categories, Daniel Aukin took home the Outstanding Direction of a Play award for Stereophonic and Maria Friedman took home Outstanding Direction of a Musical for Merrily We Roll Along. The competitive awards were presented by Lear DeBessonet, Alfred Molina, Bebe Neuwirth and Ben Platt. LaTanya Richardson Jackson presented The Gratitude Award to Kandi Burress; Thomas Schumacher presented The Founders Award for Excellence in Directing to Schele Williams; Daniel Radcliffe and Lindsay Mendez presented The Distinguished Achievement in Musical Theater Award to Jonathan Groff; and Jim Parsons presented the Contribution to Theatre Award to Jessica Lange. First awarded in 1922 and formalized in 1935, The Drama League Awards are the oldest theatrical honors in America. They are the only major theater awards chosen by a cross-section of the theater community — specifically, by the industry professionals, producers, artists, audiences, and critics who are Drama League Members nationwide.
