There is quite a few ways to get (relatively) cheap tickets to Broadway shows. Usually. The biggest problem for me is hit shows that only have *one* way, and the one way they do it is the hardest and least likely to get you tickets... a very popular digital lottery.
To my knowledge, there is no other way to get tickets to Merrily that aren't quite expensive, especially if you're not trying to have the one time you can go be when one of the leads is scheduled to be out (beggars can't be choosers, but I don't blame anyone wanting to see the show wanting to see THE show, which means with THE actual cast, especially with the raved about leads the production is partly sold on being must-see, especially together -- and while $99 is a lot better than $200-400, most people in this position can only pay $99 once- I know if that's the only discount, I'd rather see it for $150 with the full rehearsed-and-raved-about leads than understudies for $99, but even $150 is also not an option for this show almost ever). ...

other shows have usually at least 2 options of the following -- standing room, digital rush, digital lottery, in-person rush, in-person lottery, affordable balcony (not ideal for any show you want to be invested in emotionally but still), TKTS, box office willing to help you out in-person right before curtain.

Merrily, to my knowledge, has only had 1 - the worst one - digital lottery, the entire run.

If I'm wrong, then it makes me even sadder knowing I almost definitely won't be able to see it before it closes and didn't before because I couldn't justify the regular price tix and never won the lotto. :(
