Easy way to solve this non-issue. It's called Gypsy: A Musical Fable. Even though she was a real person, Rose being white is not part of the story. For all we know, Rose was an African-American woman who raised Gypsy Rose Lee. What we do know is that Rose was a mother. Of course, the last time Audra played a mother in a musical on Broadway, she killed. Literally and figuratively. ;-)
