I wonder if "Auntie Mame" might be more viable than the musical these days -- but I think it has a rather big cast. Years ago, the trend was to have shows like "Same Time, Next Year" with a cast of two -- ok, at least it seemed to average out for the producers to not have too many Equity contracts to pay per week. There aren't many big cast straight plays or comedies nowadays. Can anyone think what was the last few to have a really large cast on Broadway? Perhaps "Abe Lincoln in Illinois", and that was Lincoln Center Theater, so at least partly subsidized.
