I took some out of towners, including an adult who had never seen a Broadway show and was a little confused about what an intermission was (!). It was PERFECT for them. Roger Bart was out, so I didn't see that performance. But otherwise, it was fun and the special effects match (or perhaps exceed) Harry Potter. It had a plot that had a satisfying arc. And the ending effect was fantastic.
And with TDF tickets that put us in Row O orchestra, aisle, it was an absolute bargain. A real entertainment.
Like an amusement park thrill ride? You bet. There's a place for such things in this world.
In this case, when the usher said "Enjoy the show," she was right. This is a SHOW.
Frankly, though, I wish I had seen the original West Side Story that played this theatre. But absent that opportunity, this was fine. (But I also liked Sponge Bob.) |
