Sure...but, if any of the parade of Tracys who followed Winokur on Broadway, on tour, and around the world, happened to have gotten the role originally, instead of Winokur, would they also have been directed into giving the same performance? Whereas Peters' Rose was a unique creation, something only she could have given. Even if she'd been replaced in the role when she left the production, her replacement would, inevitably, have given a different performance in the role, with no attempt made to replicate what Peters did.
It's the reason that handmade products are generally more expensive and desirable than those that come off a factory assembly line. |
