As far as I can tell, no one -- neither theater nor pop music critics -- has reviewed the show, despite the obvious newsworthiness of the event. My point is that critics and editors, especially at the Times, too often let producers determine when or even whether their shows can be reviewed. The Public Theater tried to ban critics from reviewing Under the Radar events that had been reviewed all over Europe (I bought tickets to those, too). And there was the Spider Man fiasco. Critics should be answerable to their readers and publishers, not to producers. |
