I think Sonia is always evident by the fact of her existing. Whole trends on Broadway only happen because Sonia decrees them.
But Sonia could have taken this musical straight to Broadway, and Sonia decided that of all of the many, many nonprofits that would have turned it backflips to host this production, NYTW was where it had to happen.
And for whatever that alchemy was, that was the role that NYT W filled, and that is why they launched this colossally successful revival to Broadway.
And, who knows, maybe all that NYT did was completely get out of their way, but and last people know something that they want to share, any version of a relationship between NYTW and Sonia Friedman is plausible. These shows don’t just happen to nonprofit theaters. |
