It's got that same awful set, yes. But this Broadway version has brand new orchestrations, brand new vocal arrangements, and a lot of new directorial touches. And the most complete version of the Overture yet.
Were the 3 broadcasts of the Mary Martin Peter Pan all from the same essential production? (Even though the 1960 version was specifically recreated for video, as the show was no longer running.)
The Met has done multiple broadcasts/HD's of the same productions at times. There was also the curious case of the Covent Garden Fledermaus from 1977, which got a not-quite-as-good re-filming with essentially the same cast (but this time with Placido Domingo "conducting") in 1983. |
