I sort of compared its West Coast reception to the one given Galileo, both featuring B'way stars known for powerhouse vocals, arguably Menzel far bigger box office than Esparza. Redwood's reception was markedly better, while still mixed. It had a rave in Forbes; some other reviews are paywall protected. The show does feel new, not a retread. The one released song ("Great Escape") of course has Menzel's voice to sell its rangy New Age pop. But I thought it effective.
