I don't even think about Gypsy as a real person when I see the musical. The real Gypsy Rose Lee has been completely forgotten to be replaced by whatever characters we see in the musical.

It's odd to me that people focus so much on the race not matching when NO ONE ever mentions that the real Gypsy didn't look like Merman, Lansbury, Daly, Peters, Lupone...etc. No one cares about height, weight, and age. We just go nuts with race.

It's also so silly when people ask, "Would a Black person really be doing so and so..." Yet, no one asks, "Would people really be bursting out into song during pivotal moments of their life and an orchestra and stage appear around them?" ALL of theatre is fantasy.

With Audra, we have officially moved on.
