In terms of history and atmosphere it's ideal, but I imagine that the NY State Theater is unbeatable with the whole plaza of Lincoln Center acting as a foyer (especially on what looks to be a perfect summer evening that will be on the sunny and cool side). It may not be a Broadway theatre but it is a theatre on Broadway and convenient for almost everybody with presumably vast backstage space. Lincoln Center is one of the iconic sites of New York and I hope the producing team has set up lots of beautiful shots for tonight! (I remember visiting a friend in Beauty and the Beast many years ago and being astonished at how cramped and dirty it seemed backstage! I would think that unless they have substantially improved conditions in the recent facelift, it would be impossible to stage the current iteration of the Tonys in that space.) |
