It would be great to see Radcliffe, Groff and Mendez together on film, but they would have had to start filming 10 years ago for the ages to make sense on screen. Luckily, it appears there will be a filmed version of the current Broadway production.

Regarding the issue of star power, I agree that Mescal seems to have the most promising career, but there's no way of knowing who will be popular when the film is finally released in the 2040s. Also, I assume that Linklater, who is great with casting (e.g., Matthew McConaughey and Glen Powell early in their careers), picked the actors he thought would be best for the roles without worrying too much about who is a "name."
