First of all, I really agree the writer should get their moment.

As Joe Gilles might say: Some audiences don't know somebody sits down and writes a play; they think the actors make it up as they go along.

And I would like to think Best Playwright and Best Play would go to the same show.
But one year that jumps out at me is when War Horse won over Good People.

War Horse had a better/bigger production, but I thought/think Good People is the better play.

I feel the same way about Curious Incident winning (though I'd've preferred Hand to God, while my friends prefer Wolf Hall; I'd rank Curious incident third on that list.)
