Just as an FYI, you do not have to sit on the phone the whole time. You can give the auction house explicit written instructions (make an opening bid of x, then go x dollars above each subsequent opposing bid (or some other formula) up to a maximum of y). Then you can go to dinner. I really do think it was a stunt; the odd part to me is that it was an anonymous bid. I would think that the alternative to that is the person is nuts. At least in the Broadway Cares scenario, a person can rest assured that their money is going to a good cause. |
