Brian J. Smith received Tony and Drama Desk nominations for his wonderful work as Jim, the Gentleman Caller, in the 2014 Tony-winning revival of Tennesee Williams' ''The Glass Menagerie.'' And he starred in ''Sense 8,'' Netflix's 2015-17 sci-fi series. But nowadays, Smith is promoting ''A House Is Not a Disco,'' his directorial debut and acclaimed documentary about Fire Island and its LGBT history. Neil Patrick Harris and David Burtka are executive producers.

This week, Smith will appear at Frameline48, the LGBTQ+ film festival in San Francisco: on Fri., June 28, at 8:30 p.m. at the Roxie Theater for Matthew Fifer's ''Haze,'' a psychological thriller in which he co-stars with Cole Doman, and on Sat., June 29, at 6:30 p.m. at the Herbst Theatre for ''A House Is Not a Disco'' (which is also available for streaming from June 24-30, but only if you live in California).
