My favorite memory of Len was when we had an extra ticket to a concert production of Cole Porter’s JUBILEE, not a show Len knew at all, though I’d been obsessed with it since I was a teen and found Porter’s own demo record of it.
We were in the courtyard of the Pasadena Playhouse and Len was looking at the program. He said, “‘The Kling-Kling Bird On the Divi-divi Tree’? What kind of crazt song is that?”
So I immediately began singing it.
The look on Len’s face went from complete disbelief to utter delight in a matter of seconds. And he loved the show, too.
