It sucks but it's true. That's why sitcom actors bid for $1 million/episode salaries. So much of the paycheck goes to taxes, agent, manager, publicist etc.

Also- the average person's salary is different than an actors'. An average person's job doesn't close after 6-9 months or less. While an average person works the same job for years, an actor's show can close or be canceled after 2 months. So actors have to make as much as they can while they're still working, especially in a hit.

And 70% gone is about right. When I was on a TV show, I got $20,000/episode. About 50% goes to taxes. That's $10,000. 20% goes to commissions (that's 4000) so then I have $6000 left. A publicist at minimum is $3000/month. If you're making about 2 episodes per month, that's $1500 from each episode for publicist. So that $20,000 per episode is only $4500 in take home pay, I'm not making this up.
