In a commercial sense, none of the shows you have mentioned have had anything like the demand of this production. Merrilly has been The Hot Ticket for most of its run on Broadway. And when you were a teenager and in your early 20s, yes, you may have been able to get a ticket that had a face price considerably lower. But to get that ticket you probably had to go through a scalper who charged a considerable market (William Goldman in "The Season" talks about Ice, and I'm pretty sure that didn't disappear between the 60s and the early 80s). It is undoubtedly better that the additional amount for that hot ticket now goes to the production rather than an intermediary. The young person of today (and older people) in lower-income brackets can still see shows that have lower demands. They can't walk into the Hot Ticket shows for a low price. I refuse to believe that you don't know that.
