I think NINE is an exquisite musical and after being initially put off by the atrocious and superfluous Italian accents that turn so much of the lyrics into mush, I ended up liking this production a lot, so much so that I decided to see it again tomorrow (Thank you, TodyTix, for the major discounts). I also missed the languid and sensual tempi on songs like "I Could Be Happy with You" that you hear on both OCRs. For me, Pasquale is the best sounding and looking Guido of the four I've seen and heard (Raul Julia, Antonio Bandera, Santino Fontana), and Mastrantonio and Firlik were just astonishingly good. So lucky that in one summer, I've gotten to experience the superb Encores TITANIC and now this. Maury Yeston is a god. |
