I saw Death Becomes Her twice in Chicago and loved it, which was the general consensus here——both the enjoyment and the repeat visits! It's a great big musical comedy with two dynamite performances from the pair of leading ladies and gorgeous production values. The score was the only thing I wasn't totally in love with: while the lyrics are consistently witty, the melodies felt only okay to me (no showstopper for Debbie for Duluth) but overall it's one of the funniest musicals I've seen in a long time and if it had been here longer, I would have been back a third time, no question.
Redwood, I haven't seen, but I did hear Idina sing two songs from the show in her recent concert tour and they bored me to tears. Felt very much like the score to The Notebook: kinda pretty but also kinda pointless, with no real dramatic stakes. A friend who saw it in San Diego felt much the same about the show overall: bored. |
