I didn't realize she was only 29 when she first did the show. It's funny that since Nathan and Adelaide were engaged for 14 years, that Blaine would have been 15 at the start of their engagement! She did, on the OCR in 1950, giving me the sense that her Adelaide was older (like maybe 35 to still be doing numbers like "Take Back Your Mink" at the Hot Box) and had been around a while though. (Plus she had had a lot of children in her lies to her mother!) She's just about that age in the movie, and she's quite good, though hampered by some of her direction and blocking (too much of that medicine cabinet during "Adelaide's Lament") and that "Pet me, Poppa" number replacement for the biggest Hit Parade number from the show "Bushel and a Peck". Plus the removal of "Mary the Man Today", a fun number to at least make the sudden double wedding ending a little less sudden. | |
