Bed Among the Lentils - her monologue from Alan Bennett's Talking Heads series - at the Comedy Theatre (now the Pinter) in London in 1996. As good as her performance of it was on television, it paled next to what she managed to do with it live. Howlingly funny and desperately sad, often in the same beat, it was one of those performances that pins you to your seat. I think I stopped breathing for forty-five minutes. It's still, nearly thirty years later, as remarkable a performance as I've ever seen.
