I’ve seen Kahane perform Book of Travelers before at BAM but I very much enjoyed seeing the two evenings on successive evenings this week at Playwrights Horizons. The intimacy of the evenings grabbed me. I, too, was reminded of Paul Simon’s songs at times. Kahane’s talk was funny and relatable, given the national mood and pandemic experience.

I loved the set, too, which was designed to resemble Kahane’s studio back home. I found it interesting that on the second night the back of the set changed so that the windows moved from stage right to stage left.

My main gripe is with the audience. This is a quiet show and the person behind me kept rattling the ice in his drink throughout the short evening. Maybe in this instance drinks with ice should not be allowed in the theater.
