How sad! Gavin was a terrifically gifted performer, a wonderful songwriter, a champion of marriage equality and such a sweet soul and good guy.

In 2003, I had the honor of interviewing him for Playbill.com when he was playing Hollis in Stephen Sondheim & John Weidman's ''Bounce'' in Chicago.

Below, Gavin dishes about working with Sondheim; doing a gay ''Company'' when he was 20; struggling to perform in ''Thoroughly Modern Millie,'' etc.

The last time I saw Gavin onstage was the recent national tour of ''Into the Woods,'' and I was so eager to see his ''Walk on Through'' musical event.
