I am so saddened to hear this. He may be the actor I've seen the most on stage. I saw him in 6 different shows (Hair, She Loves Me, Hello Dolly, Waitress, Into the Woods, and Walk on Through) but I saw several of them more than once so I think I saw him perform at least 10 times.
He seemed to have a joy in performing that he could communicate to the audience across the footlights. He was also incredibly nice to audience members at the stage door, really putting people at ease. I can't remember the exact circumstances anymore, but he started to sign a Hair poster of mine when he realized after making the loop of the "G" that he had already signed it. Rather than this becoming an awkward moment, he made a funny comment and then added some more touches so the loop was turned into a butterfly. So now I have a nice butterfly to look at and think of him. |
