The book is quite thick so there may be additional stuff from the book added in to explain the long running time, but I have a feeling that it's just very bloated and will feel like a slog. It's a fantasy musical that should be kept moving, not Long Day's Journey into Night.
There will presumably be at least one new song for Oscars consideration, but the length probably means that the songs will be a smaller proportion of the running time than in many musicals. That could well contribute to pacing issues as well. |
