"WELL-BEHAVED WOMEN SELDOM MAKE HISTORY" Lauren Thatcher Ulrich ONE-NIGHT-ONLY BENEFIT CONCERT OF CARMEL DEAN'S WELL-BEHAVED WOMEN TO BE PERFORMED MONDAY, OCTOBER 28 AT THE TOWN HALL WITH KATE BALDWIN, VICTORIA CLARK, EDEN ESPINOSA, LaCHANZE, INGRID MICHAELSON, SOLEA PFEIFFER, ELIZABETH STANLEY, JESSICA VOSK, BETSY WOLFE AND MORE TICKETS NOW ON SALE New York, NY (October 1, 2024) – For one night only, Carmel Dean's acclaimed song cycle Well-Behaved Women will be presented on Monday, October 28th at The Town Hall at 7:30 PM, performed by an all-star cast of women, it was announced today. In Well-Behaved Women, Dean (Broadway's The Notebook ), brings to life incredible stories of historic and inspirational women throughout time with an emotional (and often hilarious) song cycle. Beloved Broadway favorites including Kate Baldwin, Andréa Burns, LaChanze, Victoria Clark, Hannah Corneau, Alma Cuervo, Eden Espinosa, Melissa Rose Hirsch, Ingrid Michaelson, Lauren Patten, Solea Pfeiffer, Jessica Phillips, Salena Qureshi, Elizabeth Stanley, Pearl Sun, Mary Testa, Katie Thompson, Betsy Wolfe, and more will lend their voices to the song cycle, celebrating the accomplishments and tales of powerful figures including Cleopatra, Harriet Tubman, Frida Kahlo, Billie Jean King, Ruth Bader Ginsburg, and Malala Yousafzai. The can't-miss evening is directed by Schele Williams (Broadway's The Wiz, The Notebook ), with all proceeds going towards the Harris Victory Fund and Democratic women in other down-ballot races. The concert is presented in association with the Manhattan Democratic Party. Well-Behaved Women was originally performed at Joe's Pub in January 2020, with a critically acclaimed subsequent production in Sydney, Australia. Called "exhilarating!" by Limelight Magazine and "a wonderful battle cry... a must-see" by BroadwayWorld, the song cycle was inspired by the phrase "well-behaved women seldom make history" from the writings of Harvard University historian Laurel Thatcher Ulrich. A studio cast recording of Well-Behaved Women is available now through Concord Theatricals Recordings, and can be found on all major streaming platforms. Orchestrations are by Lynne Shankel and additional lyrics are by Miriam Laube. BIOS: CARMEL DEAN is an award-winning composer/lyricist and Broadway music supervisor, musical director and arranger. Her compositional debut, Renascence , was produced in 2018 and subsequently won the Off-Broadway Alliance Award for Best New Musical. Her song cycle, Well-Behaved Women, premiered at Joe's Pub in January 2020. It received rave reviews for its production in Sydney, Australia, and has since been performed around the globe to great success. Current composition projects include The Ghost and Mrs Muir (commissioned by Ken Hoyt/Drama Club Productions), Maiden Voyage (commissioned by Mark Cortale/New Works Provincetown), and On Cedar Street (co-composed with Lucy Simon). As a Broadway Music Director, Supervisor and/or Arranger, Dean's credits include The Notebook (with a score by Ingrid Michaelson), the recent revival of Funny Girl (starring Lea Michele), If/Then (starring Idina Menzel), American Idiot, Hands on a Hardbody, and The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee. Other roles have included Vocal Arranger for jam-band Phish and Trey Anastasio (Madison Square Garden; Las Vegas; Chicago's Wrigley Field); performer with Green Day on the 52nd Annual Grammy Awards; and musical director for Broadway legend Chita Rivera. Born and raised in Perth, Australia, and now residing in New York City, Carmel is a Fulbright Scholar, holds an MFA from New York University's Graduate Musical Theatre Writing Program, and is a member of the BMI Lehman Engel Musical Workshop. SCHELE WILLIAMS is a director and author committed to cultivating work with authentic representation on stage and off. She recently made her Broadway directorial debut this season with not one but two Broadway musicals: The Notebook (co-director along with Michael Greif) and the highly anticipated Broadway revival of The Wiz. Her upcoming directing projects for the stage include Disney's revival of Aida and Hidden Figures (Disney) and Rebel Girls the Musical. Other Broadway shows include Rent (Associate Choreographer), Motown the Musical (Associate Director), Aida (Original Broadway Company).
