Does anyone know if Love Never Dies recouped in London? Given the length of its run it is probably the only sequel to even stand a chance of having done that. Not sure about the US tour, due to the way they are financed. It's weekly grosses looked healthy. And if the producer was a getting a weekly guaranteed sum to cover running costs and amottized production costs, one could presume it recouped.
The topic of its quality is another discussion. But it does seeem to be widely disliked and never made it to Broadway. So I think it still supports the idea that sequels of musicals are pretty much never a good bet. |
