Let's not bash UK salaries. Yes they are lower than in the US. They also have fewer absurd rules, especially as they relate to stage crews. And musicians work for the producers and not the theatres. And yes, basic salary is for an 8 show maximum week. There is extra pay for more than 8 shows a week. There is a 12 show per weeks salary rate, which is useful during Panto season.
I don't know if this odd rule still exists with BECTU (UK version of IATSE). It was called 8 for 9. If you paid your crew for 9 performances a week, they would show up to work 8 rather than sending in subs |
