| THE BARROW GROUPS PRESENTS WORLD PREMIERE OF TRIPTYCH BY JOHN YEARLEY, NOVEMBER 8–24 Directed by Eric Paeper, Triptych Stars Tricia Alexandro and Michael Giese as a Couple on an Unusual Journey Through Grief The Barrow Group is proud to present the world premiere of Triptych, a new play by John Yearley. Directed by Eric Paeper, the production stars Tricia Alexandro and Michael Giese as a couple on an unusual journey through grief. Running November 8–24, 2024, with an opening set for November 9, the production officially opens the Studio Theater at The Barrow Group Performing Arts Center (520 8th Ave, 9th FL). Tickets are now on sale at www.barrowgroup.org . One life-changing event. Two souls finding their way. Three bridges to cross. A couple in the wake of a personal tragedy fight their way through grief in extraordinary, even wacky ways. Their unusual journey leads to the sweetest sort of personal discovery that great love has to offer. John Yearley gives us a glimpse at that redemption through a most unusual lens. “The Barrow Group has been my creative home for over a decade and I'm so grateful for the support they’ve given me," says playwright John Yearley. "I think the way we talk about things like grief and a good marriage are often asinine. People here talk about ‘healing’ and ‘closure’ in a way that is often totally dismissive of the actual experience of profound loss. And they don't think that a marriage that goes through deep pain and loss can be good. I'm hoping, in my own small small way, that my play improves the conversation around two things.” The Barrow Group’s Co-Artistic Directors Lee Brock and Seth Barrish remarked, “John Yearley’s new play, Triptych, offers a rare treat! The artistic team, Eric Paeper, Michael Giese, and Tricia Alexandro have been working together for more than 25 years and it shows. They bring to the table a common language—allowing them to bring extraordinary liveness and spontaneity to performances, giving you an unforgettable experience. Triptych takes us through a gorgeous, moving journey to redemption. John Yearley brings his formidable skills as he mines the wackier, vulnerable sides of humanity in this tale that folks will relate to in so many ways. As this is the first full production in our new, beautifully intimate performance space, we can’t wait to share this production with you.” The creative team for Triptych includes Daisy Long (lighting designer), Kyle Jensen (sound designer), Eric Paeper (production design), and Christine Cirker (line producer). Twelve performances of Triptych will take place November 8–24, 2024 at the Studio Theater at The Barrow Group Performing Arts Center, located at 520 8th Ave, 9th FL in Manhattan. Critics are welcome as of Saturday, November 9, which serves as the official opening. The performance schedule is Friday and Saturdays at 7:30 PM and Sundays at 3:30 PM & 7:30 PM. About the artists John Yearley wrote The Unrepeatable Moment (“Thought provoking… exhilarating… painfully hilarious” – New York Times, “Yearley is a master” – Huffington Post). His latest play, 8 Minutes, 20 Seconds, was workshopped by LABryinth Theatre Company, performed at Temple University, and is published by TRW Plays. He is also the author of Leap (Mickey Kaplan New American Play Prize, Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park), Ephemera (John Gassner Award), Another Girl (PlayPenn), and Bruno Hauptmann Kissed My Forehead (Abingdon Theatre). Works for young audiences include The Last Wish (Macy’s New Play Prize for Young Audiences) and an adaptation of Sophocles’ Antigone. Short plays All in Little Pieces and A Low-Lying Fog are available through Samuel French. He has written for the children’s TV program Treasure Trekkers and PBS Kids’ Arthur as well as being a “script doctor” for New Line Cinema. Teaches Playwriting, TV Writing, and Screenwriting at Temple University, Drexel University, and The Barrow Group. Member of the Dramatists Guild, Writers Guild of America East, and twice a MacDowell Fellow. Eric Paeper has been a participating artist at The Barrow Group since before the turn of the century when he appeared in Natural Selection by Chuck Brown, directed by Seth Barrish. Since then, he has been involved in many productions, workshops, and readings at TBG as an actor, writer, producer, director, and production designer including Sonnets for an Old Century (actor) by Jose Rivera, Off the Map (director) by Joan Ackerman, Pentecost (producer) by David Edgar, The Fear Project (writer/director), a collection of short plays by TBG artists, The Time Keepers (actor/producer) by Dan Clancey, and most recently Lost...Found (lighting) by K. Lorrel Manning. As an actor, Eric has worked on stage, television, and film in many genres including everything from Shakespeare, to musical theater, to daytime drama. Eric is proud to be a long standing member of the TBG teaching faculty since 2001. Eric is thrilled to be working again with The Barrow Group, John Yearley, and the supremely talented cast of Triptych. Tricia Alexandro is an actor, writer and native New Yorker. She studied acting with Seth Barrish and Lee Brock at The Barrow Group, and with Bob Krakower at Manhattan Film Institute. She is an alumni of The Labyrinth Theater Company’s Master Class. Her latest credits include the Off-Broadway play Seven Deadly Sins, written and directed by Obie-winner Moisés Kaufman, a recurring role on the TV show Bridge and Tunnel (written and directed by Ed Burns) which premiered at The Tribeca Film Festival, The Blacklist, BULL, Law and Order: SVU, and The Other Two (with Molly Shannon) on HBO Max. Tricia was in Ed Burns’ film Millers in Marriage, starring Juliana Margulies, which appeared at the 2024 Toronto Film Festival, and just wrapped Ed Burns’ latest film shot in Ireland, Finnegan’s Foursome, which is currently in post-production. Tricia is thrilled to be back onstage at The Barrow Group, her longtime artistic home, where she has appeared in numerous shows including Lyle Kessler’s premiere of PERP, Short Stuff, According to the Chorus, her one woman show Snapshots (with musician Peter Eldridge) and John Yearley’s The Unrepeatable Moment. She is delighted to be collaborating with the incredible John Yearley again, alongside her dear friends, Eric and Mike. Tricia also teaches at The Barrow Group School and is a certified life and fitness coach, who loves helping folks flourish. Michael Giese is thrilled once again to be asked to read John Yearley’s words in this lovely new play. Michael has been in multiple productions and readings at The Barrow Group, his artistic home for some 23 years where he is also a teaching artist, including John Yearley’s A Low Lying Fog, an adaptation of Henrik Ibsen’s An Enemy Of The People by Seth Barrish and K. Lorrel Manning, a collection of shorts by Mr. Manning entitled Awake, and the acclaimed 2020 New York and 2023 Edinburgh Fringe Festival premieres of Scott Organ’s 17 Minutes.
