The speeches were rambly and too long, but it was nice to have the Producing Artistic Director speak at every performance. For me locally, it's pretty common that a staff member talk before each performance for the local theater companies. They talk about the upcoming season, how to donate, no cell phones, etc. It creates a personal connection, and it's also a nice way to start on time-ish while still leaving room for latecomers to be seated. I guess that's not typical, though. Besides Morgan, I'm not sure I've ever seen that in New York, and I've seen shows in other cities and I don't recall that happening.
Locally, it's usually not the Artistic Director, though. It's the stage manager, or an intern, or someone else. For Morgan to stick around until 7:30pm for every evening performance for every production showed real dedication. |
