You couldn't be more wrong. I vote Democrat, and I know plenty of Democratic voters - in and out of the arts - who think wokeness in the arts - groupthink - is the wrong way to go. You didn't see O'Neill and Williams and Miller and Ethel Merman (obviously not a writer) and Sondheim and so many others getting attached to groupthink. I doubt that Lena Horne, in spite of her activism, would care about groupthink. Yes, they've now named a Broadway theatre after her, but she'd probably say, "Too late," just as she said about the success of her 1981 show.
The show is closing because there are people who are NOT coming to it. Some Like It Hot also closed because the audiences were not coming. |
