I think the scene is only "sad" if you're playing the next scene. But the next scene hasn't happened yet. As you said, the number is delightful.
Also, your literal words were "sad song-and-dance." Which to me, wasn't even necessarily a description of the scene/story involved, but of the quality of the number itself.
