No one asked, but I loved the show -- I don't know how it got less than favorable reviews.
I also would have HANDED that show Best Choreography (the fact that Hamilton won that over SA is an insult and a joke).
I would also have voted for Wolfe for Direction over Kail.
And probably Brandon Victor Dixon in SA over Daveed Diggs...
And very possible Adrienne Warren in SA for Featured over Goldsberry (who was also incredible and deserving)... hell, I may have actually voted for Simard that year for Disaster. So few Broadway actors know how to be really really funny, I'd have been thrilled to recognize a genuinely funny performance that stole the show. As amazing as Goldsberry is and was in Hamilton, many singing actors can do that role brilliantly, very few can do what Simard did in Disaster. I feel like they used to give Tonys for that kind of performance more than they ever would nowadays. If that were the 70s or before she'd have walked away with the Tony I'm willing to bet. |
