I wonder if the producers even tried to make a case to bring over Dobson. Even though he's a complete unknown in the US, they probably could have made a case based on his Oliver nomination and preserving the double act with Roger Bart, who was a no brainer to bring over, since he's both American and a name on Broadway.
I wonder how they got permission for Bart to originate the role in London? Has he had a career in the West End? They've certainly not had issues replacing him with British actors since his departure from the West End production, so I imagine it might've been a tough sell to British Equity that this was a role that no British actor could do. |
