As a music director, I've often relished the idea of the post-show Q&A with my colleagues, but i agree that it's a tricky thing. The toughest that I recall was a production of Pacific Overtures I did in 2019, where one audience member (Caucasian) decided to berate us for what she saw as stereotyping in the choreography. Even though we had worked particularly carefully, with specialists, etc, to make sure that what we were presenting was authentic. But she wasn't really *asking* us about that process, just uncomfortable with what she had seen. And as hard as my colleagues at the Q&A tried to defend the work, it was hard to get past er comment - because it wasn't presented as discussion as much as it was accusation. So yes, tricky.

I've seen some companies do more of a presentation on a certain topic and inviting questions around that topic - that can work, but then that takes away from those audience members that want to discuss/ask about other aspects of the production at hand. So again, tricky.

Most of all, I love the chance to interact with the audience and discuss what they saw and heard, and have fun answering any "insider" questions they may have about the process, etc. But not all Q&A's do that well.
